How much to charge

One of the most common mistakes when starting is charging too little. It seems you’ll sell more, but really you work a lot, earn little and attract the customers who haggle most.

Three ways to set a price

By costWhat it costs you + your margin. It’s the minimum: below it, you lose money.
By marketWhat others charge for something similar. It gives you a reference.
By valueWhat it’s worth to the customer. If a website brings 30 bookings a month, €400 is cheap for them.
Example: a website for a bar
Hours: 15 · What you want to earn per hour: €20 → €300
Domain, template, tools: €50
Minimum price: €350 · Market price: €300-1,500
Reasonable price when starting: €400-500, with a month of changes included.

Tips

  • Say the price confidently, without apologising or over-justifying.
  • Packages: basic, standard and complete. Most people pick the middle one.
  • Don’t lower the price: remove things. “For 250 I’ll do it without the booking system.”
  • Ask for part up front on service work (for example, 50%).
If you charge for work regularly, it’s an economic activity: register and issue invoices. We explain it in the Dropshipping and Cars courses.
