Building your brand step by step
The best way to start isn’t “creating content”, which is scary. It’s documenting what you already do: what you learn, what you try, what goes well and badly.
1One topicSomething you like and could talk about 100 times.
2DocumentShow your process, not just results.
3ConsistencySame day, same format, for months.
4Add valueEvery post should help or teach something.
5CommunityReply, listen and build relationships.
1. Choose a topic
Narrow is better than broad: “car fixes and tricks for people without a garage” beats “cars”. Once you’re known for one thing, you can expand.
2. Choose where
TikTok, Reels, ShortsTo get discovered. Short, direct videos.
YouTubeTo build trust. Long videos that really explain.
LinkedInFor jobs and companies.
Something of your ownA website or an email list: something that doesn’t depend on an app changing its rules.
3. Post consistently
- Start with a pace you can keep for 90 days, even if it’s low (for example, 3 videos a week).
- Your first 30-50 videos are for learning. Hardly anyone will see them, and that’s fine.
- See which videos work best and make more of those.
4. Protect yourself
- Don’t show your address, your number plate, your street, your ID or your family’s school or workplace.
- Don’t share how much money you have or where you keep it.
- Ignore people who are only looking for a fight: replying gives them visibility.
