Getting customers for a local business

Opening the door doesn’t bring customers. You have to go out and find them, especially in the first months.

What works best (and is almost free)

  • Google listing (Google Business Profile): address, opening hours, phone, good photos. Many people search “barber near me”. Ask every happy customer for a review.
  • Instagram and TikTok: show your work (before and after, the process, the atmosphere). You don’t need to dance: you need to show what you do well.
  • Your people: family, friends, your community. Your first customers almost always come from there; treat them like the best so they recommend you.
  • An opening day or first week with an offer (without giving your work away).
  • Working with the businesses next door: cross discounts, posters, recommendations.

Getting them to come back

  • Serve people well and be consistent in quality and opening hours.
  • Remind them of their next visit (WhatsApp, booking app).
  • A simple loyalty card works.
  • Ask for feedback and quickly fix what they didn’t like.
