The risks: data, scams and not thinking for yourself

What you should never enter

  • Your DNI, NIE or passport, or photos of them.
  • Passwords and verification codes.
  • Bank and card details.
  • Health data about you or others, with names.
  • Personal data of customers, colleagues or family.

What you type may be stored and, depending on the service and your settings, used to train the AI. Check the settings to see if you can turn that off.

Scams with fake voices and videos

A few seconds of audio are enough to copy someone’s voice. And fake videos of celebrities recommending investments are everywhere.

  • If “a relative” calls asking for urgent money, hang up and call them on their usual number.
  • Agree a code word with your family for emergencies.
  • A celebrity recommending an investment in a video or ad: almost certainly fake.
  • If you’ve already fallen for it, call your bank straight away and get free help on 017, the cybersecurity helpline.

Don’t let it think for you

If you ask AI everything, little by little you stop thinking: writing, solving problems, making mistakes and learning. It’s like always taking the lift: one day you can’t climb the stairs.

Simple rule: think first, then ask. That way AI makes you smarter, not more dependent. It’s what we work on in the Mind section with dopamine and discipline.
