How to ask it properly

What you type to the AI is called a prompt. The better you explain, the better it answers. There are no magic tricks: it’s like asking a person to do a job.

1RoleWho you want it to be.
2TaskWhat exactly it should do.
3ContextWhat it needs to know.
4FormatHow you want the answer.

Example 1: an ad

Before: “Make me an ad for my barbershop.”

After: “Act as a marketing expert for small businesses. Write 3 short texts for an Instagram ad for my barbershop in Olot. We’re open Tuesday to Saturday, haircuts from €12, young customers. Friendly tone, maximum 40 words each, with a call to book on WhatsApp.”

Example 2: understanding something

Before: “What is IRPF?”

After: “Explain IRPF as if I were 16 and in my first job. Use an example with a salary of €1,300 a month. At the end, tell me what to check on my payslip. If anything may have changed this year, warn me.”

Tricks that work

  • Have a conversation: if you don’t like it, say what to change (“shorter”, “more formal”, “give me another option”).
  • Ask it to ask you: “before answering, ask me anything you need”.
  • Give it examples of what you like.
  • Ask it to say what it’s unsure about.
