How to read a candle
Trading charts aren't a line: they're Japanese candlesticks. Each candle sums up what the price did over a period of time (1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day…).
Every candle has 4 prices:
OpenThe price when the period starts.
CloseThe price when the period ends.
HighThe highest price it reached.
LowThe lowest price it reached.
The body (the thick part) goes from the open to the close. The wicks (the thin lines) show how far the price went, even if it came back afterwards.
- Green: it closed higher than it opened → the price went up.
- Red: it closed lower than it opened → the price went down.
- Big body = strong move. Small body = little strength.
