Learning a paid skill and building your portfolio
Clients don’t pay for qualifications: they pay for results they can see. Your portfolio (the work you show) is worth more than any diploma.
Choose well what to learn
- That there’s demand nearby: see what businesses in your area need and what’s requested on platforms.
- That you can show the result: a website, a video, a before and after.
- That you like it enough to do it hundreds of times.
Where to learn without paying €500
- YouTube and the official documentation of each program: almost everything is free.
- Practise on real projects: a relative’s business website, a friend’s videos.
- Copy to learn (not to sell): redoing work you like teaches you how it was made.
- Public training: vocational courses, employment service and town hall courses.
Build your portfolio without clients
- Make 3 example projects as if they were real: a website for an invented bar, a video for a shop on your street.
- For each one explain: the problem, what you did and the result.
- Put them somewhere easy to show: a simple website, an Instagram or Behance profile, or a PDF.
- Replace the examples with real work as soon as you have it.
This website is a good example: if you can build something like it, you already have a portfolio to show any business.
