Stock market taxes in Spain
- Gains from selling shares or ETFs are taxed under IRPF as savings income (from 19 % to 30 %, same as crypto).
- Dividends too, with 19 % automatically withheld in Spain.
- If you sell part of a holding, the tax office assumes you sell the oldest shares first (the FIFO method).
- If you sell at a loss and buy the same share again within the next 2 months, you can’t use that loss yet (the 2-month rule).
- Investment funds (not ETFs) can be switched from one to another without paying tax.
- If you hold more than €50,000 in accounts or securities abroad, you must file form 720.
